Upgrading the Parking Experience for the Fifth Busiest Airport in the World

ABM's aviation team was able to enhance the client's parking infrastucture, thereby driving the passenger experience and identify future revenue opportunities.

The client, one of the busiest airports in the world, was undergoing extensive operational upgrades throughout its facilties, including its parking
and EV infrastructure. ABM, tasked with enhancing the parking operation, upgraded 1,250 spaces so that they were equipped for EV charging.

Challenge

As one of the busiest airports in the world, the client helps millions of passengers each year. To enahance its facilities to better support passengers, the airport was undergoing a capital improvement project worth multiple billions, and ABM was taked with upgrading the airport’s parking operations.

Other than a limited number of automated payment systems and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in some buildings, little changed since they were originally built. In four out of the eight parking facilities, customers had to manually request a ticket to enter the structure, and often circle through several levels or go to another facility to find a space, before waiting in line to pay at a cashier booth.

Solution

ABM implemented smart parking infrastructure and services to modernize and transform the airport parking experience. These changes were built on an industry-unique integration platform that supported increased functionality across all component systems. The technology upgrades and operational improvements made the experience more convenient, efficient, and customizable for passengers and guests.

  • Wayfinding/Guidance Signage: Installed on all roadways approaching the airport.
  • Automated Parking Infrastructure: Automated gates, contactless payment functionality, automated license plate readers, and credit card and barcode readers create a frictionless experience.
  • Online Reservations and Self-Service: Visitors can pre-book online and choose which parking garage, product, designated level, and specific space they will use.
  • Premium Services: Visitors can reserve EV spaces or upon drive-up and pay the fees through a one-step payment process.
