Sustainable Solutions for a New Client

The front-of-house and security teams were responsible for managing an area with heavy footfall. Despite the challenges posed by the high volume of visitors, the teams were able to overcome them through effective training and innovative technology

Challenge

The client placed a significant emphasis on sustainable cleaning practices, and as a result, made the decision to reduce the number of product suppliers to just one and switch to using entirely chemical-free products. Additionally, the site now uses Greenline recycling products and has installed a water filtration system.

Despite these changes, there were some challenges in their implementation. Installing new systems took longer than expected due to the need to secure approval from the building landlord. Similarly, the water quality in the area posed a challenge to the goal of becoming environmentally sustainable. Therefore, it was essential that the client move away from chemical cleaning options for chemical-free and more environmentally sustainable cleaning materials.

Solution

ABM provided a wide range of services at a single site, while placing a strong emphasis on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. This was achieved through a variety of initiatives.

ABM Implemented training programs for the workforce, ensuring they were comfortable with the new systems to provide the right service. This included the use of robots on the site, with trials conducted on vacuum cleaners to ease the workload of the workforce and allow them to concentrate on other cleaning tasks.

The team also collaborated closely with building staff to promote proper waste segregation.

ABM offered education and guidance on cross-contamination and encouraged people to properly dispose of waste in designated areas.

Streamlined the procurement of consumables to come from a single supplier, which also replaced plastic cups with ceramic cups to reduce waste. The cleaning operation also began using reusable and washable products, instead of purchasing new ones each time. Similarly, ABM also installed a Purex water filter from Craftex to improve the water quality.
