Pinewood Healthcare, a pharmaceutical manufacturer specializing in renal medical products, partnered with ABM to support its manufacturing facility's cleaning standards and identify opportunities for enhanced cleaning capabilities.
Challenge
Pinewood Healthcare, a pharmaceutical company specializing in manufacturing renal healthcare products, focused on two key challenges: compliant cleaning services suitable for stringent pharmaceutical regulations and consistent staff retention.
As a pharmaceutical manufacturer, contamination risks needed to be reduced throughout the client site, including warehouse storage areas. A partner that could deliver a safe, clean working environment was, therefore, identified as essential. Moreover, staff retention was regarded as a core objective, foundational in supporting Pinewood’s manufacturing and warehouse environments—both in delivering effective services and retaining experienced team members.
Solution
To better support one of Pinewood’s business-critical manufacturing sites, ABM was quick to build a robust client-supplier relationship throughout the initial mobilization process. An assigned contract management team, with a focus on operational service quality and team management, was deployed to guarantee regular site presence. Given the regulated nature of the pharmaceutical industry, this was critical throughout the mobilization process to avoid oversights.
ABM conducted a series of focus meetings geared toward understanding the client’s core requirements, key aims, and target KPIs, and establishing action plans with attached deadlines. Subsequently, equipment tailored to pharmaceutical environments such as high-level dusting equipment, operated floor-cleaning machines, and industrial cleaning fluids, were delivered to frontline teams.
Given the importance it held for Pinewood’s business performance, ABM enacted a series of staff incentive plans to enhance retention rates. Not only would this support the overall delivery of services, but also ensure the most suitable staff were hired, vetted, trained, and then deployed. As a result, ABM was successful in building and retaining an effective team for Pinewood.
Similarly, in collaboration with the client, pay rates were adjusted to become increasingly competitive and help reduce the challenges posed by the site’s geographical location. More recently, discussions were held to learn how ABM could support Pinewood’s parking operation, so that staff and visitors would have access to reliable EV charging stations in a remote area.
To ensure that the quality of service and contract management was improved upon and maintained, ABM held regular corrective meetings to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and listen to staff feedback. As a result, monthly reports were produced to track performance, identify areas of improvement, and provide Pinewood with regular updates.

- EV Charger opportunity: Due to Pinewood’s remote site, they expressed interest in the possibility of engaging with ABM’s EV charging services to equip the site with additional technology, both to support staff retention and drive the visitor experience.
